What would prompt a university to give someone a “full ride”?

Are there specific things that colleges look for when they determine how much money they’ll give you?

1) Acedmics–obviously

2) Extra-cirrulcuas–how much volunteering have you down? Did you raise any money?

3) Sports–if you’re good in sports, you’ll get a full ride regardless of your grades.

4) Family background–you can’t control it, but if your Aunt Jeanie graduated from Ohio State and you’re trying to go there, they will cut your tuition.

5) Other scholarships to MAKE it full ride–if you’re a female and going into math or science, you’ll get some nice scholarships.

Outstanding grades and test scores combined with community service, participation in school activities, etc. They would be looking for an exceptional student who will be worth their investment.

Or you could be an outstanding athlete with decent grades and test scores. They get lots of scholarships (although this often depends on the sport).

Or you could be a low-income minority. There’s a lot of scholarship money to be had for the underprivileged.
