You will need to pay the money back. Any unused portion of a grant needs paid back. I was a collector for the US Dept of ED for 5 years…..trust me….they will find you and you will pay it back with extensive interest!

Ditto to str8tlkr!! You will have to pay back all or a portion of a pell grant if you withdraw from your classes, and you won’t be able to get any further federal aid until you’ve paid back the grant. I worked in a financial aid office for years!

You don’t have to pay a pell grant back, I received one and then dropped a class. As long as you drop it within the time frame that the school allows, you get to keep the grant because it wasn’t a loan, it was money given to you so there wouldn’t be any interest charged. I worked for a student loan company and you would only have to pay it back if it were a loan. If you do this too much, you might not be allowed at the school anymore. I saw a lot of people do this when they received loans.

in case you’re enrolled in 9 credit, you will in basic terms obtain 3/4th of the Pell grant. in case you already prevalent the full pell grant, you may return a million/4 of it back to the government.

listen to str8talker! I did this and didn’t know what to do with the grant money left over. They found me and I had to pay it back with interest.

Sometimes they will allow it if its just one class but the majority of the time they wont. They will come after you for doing that. You will end up owing alot more then you gained.
