Private Loan For Off Campus Apartment?

I’m going to attend a community college to start the Radiologic Technology program and the college is 3 hrs away from my home, the college doesn’t offer student housing. Is it a bad idea to use a private loan to pay for rent while i’m in school for 2yrs? I have a part time job but it doesn’t pay enough to cover the cost of an apartment in that area.

Loans are okay, but only if they are absolutely necessary.

If you can’t go to school any other way, then take out the loans, but DON’T do a private loan, go to your schools financial aid office and see if you have maxed out your federal loan amounts there. (If you are going to a community college you probably have not. Often times the clerks have to be prompted to give you these amounts and when you ask they will simply say, “Only borrow what you need.”)

If you maxed out your subsidized loan amounts then ask for an unsubsidized loan as well. This will be a cheaper option for you and better terms than any private loan out there. Once you get to class, maybe you could find a RT room mate. Just an idea…

Good Luck!

Your private academic own loan has to pay your institutional expenditures first (classes and expenditures). Then, if there is any left over, the faculty will refund those money to you to apply for different academic expenses, which includes residing expenses.

It seems most logical to take out a student loan. You need to go to school and it is unrealistic to travel three hours to school. I would take out the loan.
