My EFC is over $2000….?

Has anyone had an EFC of over $2000 bucks and been able to get any financial aid? I don’t really understand how it is that high. My DH only made about 33000 last year and that’s for a family of three and I didn’t work. Anyway…does anyone know if i’ll be able to get a Pell Grant or any other grants?

If your SAR (Student Aid Report) says that you are eligible for a Pell Grant then you will be getting one from your school. Those who have EFC’s of less than 4111 can get a Pell Grant with a valid EFC. You only said that your EFC was over 2000, not how much it was exactly. Based on Full Time status it could be anywhere from $2260/year for an EFC of 2001 to $400 for an EFC of 4110.

If you are eligible for a Pell Grant, then you may be eligible for an ACG or SMART as well, depending on your major.

You should talk to a financial aid officer at your school for more information. Good luck!!

**Edited to add: with an EFC of 2501 to 2600 you would be eligible for a Pell Grant of $1760/year ($880/semester) for full time status.

You will still be eligible for financial aid. You may not eligible for grants, possible just government loans. Your school may also give you some scholarships.

Your best bet would be to also look for outside scholarships to lighten your loan amounts.

You’ll still get financial aid I’m just not sure how much of it will be in grants. Most will be loans. I recommend going for some scholarships.
