Your best bet would be to check with the Department of Veterans Affairs. I’ve heard there are benefits, but I have not checked into it myself. I know definitely there are education benefits for children of retirees and children of those who served in Vietnam and Korea, but I wouldn’t even know where to start to tell you about the process since I did not go through it myself. Also, on every college campus there is a financial aid office. I would check with them on this also because they always have at least 1 person, who knows about the VA benefits. They can file for financial aid through FAFSA and there is a question about military service on the FAFSA form.

This is the link for the application for benefits.

I hope those things help.

I don’t think currently there is anything set up to put the children of purple heart vets though school for free. As someone else said a lot of the funding has been removed over the years. I would call the financial aid department of the schools your children are interested in and find out.

My Dad received a Purple Heart in the 2nd world war. My two sisters both went to college, and everything was paid for except their books. I’m not sure if it was only for 2 or 4 yr. schools tho. Also, since so many things have been cut off for our vererans, this may have been cut also. Best bet is to call your congressman, or the Statehouse. Good Luck!
