College is a time to have fun and make new friends. You shouldn’t be spending that much money on gas going home every weekend. If you go somewhere with friends, make sure you carpool and ask everyone to chip in a few dollars for gas. Clip coupons and take care of all of your grocery shopping at once. I would say that if you shop wisely, you would spend about 300 dollars on clothes in a semester. And maybe about 100 dollars on groceries each time you go. It would be a safe bet to take at least 800 dollars and if you don’t use it then save it. And if you need more you could always get a job on campus.
