Has anyone has their school loans forgiven due to a disability?

I just called the plus loan department and they said that if I have a long-term disability I can get my loans forgiven which is a process.

Yes you can, if your disability prevents you from working. I did it for my husband and it took a while to get the paperwork to go through. (He is on SSD so verifying his illness was relatively simple.) If you are in repayment status, they still expect you to pay on it during that process. I remember conditions about not forgiving the loan if you were disabled before the loan was taken out.

Initially it was “conditionally discharged” which means they still require documentation every year he isn’t working or making less than a certain amount of money a year. It actually takes something like 3 years AFTER the initial “discharge” status is granted to truly get the loan discharged.

the sole way reimbursement of your scholar loans could be forgiven for a medically appropriate reason is whilst you’re declared disabled with the aid of the social secure practices administration, and get on disability. you apart from mght would desire to be achieved jointly with your education…you could not save accumulating debt which you realize won’t gets a commission…and you will on no account be waiting to apply that grad college degree.

Yes you can, but you’ll have to fill out a form and your doctor will have to fill out part of it and sign it to verify your disability. Call your lender and they will send you the appropriate form.
