Mine always just showed up at the school’s financial aid office for whatever amount I was told it would be. There was no “estimate” that I can recall. Just study hard, make good grades, and be grateful taxpayers are helping to foot your college bill in hopes of making a dutiful taxpayer (as I am now) for the future.

It will automatically come off your bill when you get a final bill from the college. It will be listed under awards. You don’t get the check directly for the Pell grant, the school gets it. You can call them and confirm that they have deducted the money from your tuition. They give an estimate the first time around, but with your final bill from the school, it will have an exact amount. You don’t have to ever pay a grant back. You might lose the reward for the next year or sememster if they require you to maintain a certain grade average.

You don’t have to pay a grant back, unlike a loan. Grant amounts are dependent on: the student’s expected family contribution (EFC) (see below); the cost of attendance (as determined by the institution); the student’s enrollment status (full time or part time); and whether the student attends for a full academic year or less. Students may not receive Federal Pell Grant funds from more than one school at a time. It will pay from the beginning of the semester.

The grant goes to your school. It pays your tuition and hopefully there is some left for books and school supplies to be purchased at the school book store. A few days after the semester starts they will send you a check for what money is left over if any. I’m not sure about the grades. If you drop out they will want the money back.

HI! Grants are different than scholarships and financial aid. With the Pell grants, availabe to undergrads normally, it does not have to be repaid so it’s free money HOWEVER, if you fail the class it may affect future allotments slotted for you. Each college or university has different guidelines on their scale for GPA’s. Check with your financial aid counselor for the specifics, but if this is your first grant and you do well, you won’t need to pay that back. Good luck! Just do your best, get your degree and use the financial aid counselors there to maximize getting all the assistance available to you! Best of luck to you…

A Pell Grant is a grant; there is never any repayment on a grant. Regardless of if you finish the courses, fail, or whatever. Once the school gets the award letter, you should see that amount deducted from your tuition balance.

It is automatically sent to the school to cover expenses. If there is extra, it will be refunded to you. If you fail your classes, you won’t have to pay it back but if you drop out all together you will.
