You have to list your parents info until you are over the age of 24 for the FAFSA, even if you don’t live w/them; unless you are married, have children or dependants that you provide more than half of their support or your Financial Aid department deems you “Independant.” The last usaually hard to pull off, your situation would have to be pretty dire, like both parents decesed or in prison, etc.

Eventhough you may not have been approved for a Pell Grant w/FAFSA you should be offered a Stafford loan, unless you marked that you weren’t interested in Loans or workstudies. If you did that you need to make a correction to that question on your already submitted FAFSA. Otherwise you probably need to fill out a loan request form from your college, to let them know you want a loan. In addition to a Stafford Loan you can apply for loans from a lot of other places, like your local bank or private loan company.

Here are the steps you need to take:

1) Fill out the FAFSA. Make sure you list your self as independent if your parents are not helping you. Then you should be eligible for financial aid on your own. Go here:

http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

2) Once you are eligible for aid, choose a government-based student loan. The best loan to get is a Federal Perkins Loan. These have low interest rates and the government will help you pay it back as long as you stay enrolled in school. You also don’t need a cosigner or good credit for it. For more info go here:

3) The next best loan to get is a Subsidized Stafford Loan. This has many of the same benefits as a Perkins Loan. Learn more here:

4) You can also try to get a grant or scholarship, which is free money that you won’t have to pay back. Look here:

you can only claim to be independent of your parents for financial aid if you are 24+, married, have a child, or are in the military. if you cannot answer yes to any of these you are required to list your parents on your fafsa, regardless of where you live or how much assistance you get from them. I went to school all 4 years as a dependent student even though I lived on my own, worked full time, and filed independently on my taxes. parents are expected to contribute to their children’s education. just because you did not receive the amount of aid you wanted doesnt mean that you should receive more. not many people have their college completely paid for with financial aid. take out a federal stafford loan. you will have to pay it back after graduation but you would be set for your payments now.

Are you still living at home? If you aren’t then your parents income should not affect your Fafsa at all. And if your not living at home then you need to make sure you didn’t list their income.

Now if you are living at home and they are paying for your food, housing, etc.. Then you could possibly go into the college you are trying for and talk to someone in financial aide and explain to them that you are having to pay for college all on your own and explain the circumstances. Don’t take no for an answer!!

My son is getting financial aide and my name didn’t have to be involved because he is on his own. Don’t give up yet, go talk to them!

I wish you all the best, college is so important.

This plan is a very undesirable concept sorry? you’re unlikely to discover a reliable very own loan without credit or cosigner. The pastime is going to be extremely extremely severe. so which you will land up having extremely severe month-to-month money and additionally pay hundreds of extra beneficial money interior the long-term (a minimum of $1000 probable). additionally while you are going to spend lots of the money on motor vehicle then how are you going to pay your hire and expenses and fees? $800 won’t conceal plenty despite if hire is inexpensive the place you reside. you will need money for hire, motor vehicle coverage and gasoline, electrical energy bill, possibly warmth/gasoline for the apt., food, going out, college fees, outfits, etc. Plus the non-public loan money as quickly as you’re able to pay off it? Its under no circumstances sensible despite in case you forget approximately the motor vehicle and spend the entire $5000 on residing fees. as quickly as the non-public loan $$ runs out you would be completely broke and lose the place of residing and land up which incorporate your father and mom back? Get a extra acceptable job/artwork extra hours. save up money, make a funds, decide what residing fees would be and then circulate out once you have honestly money of your very own to pay for those products. yet you ought to objective financial help workplace? They probable have inner maximum loans you may get. i don’t recommend it yet possibly you may get one via your college.

Orphan you said. I have never had parents or something like that. Tax returns that show you are independent and have supported yourself.
