How can I start saving money for college….?
I’m 13, and i dont have a job yet, I plan to get one when i am 14. I get good grades so i might get a scholarship for college when i am older, but i want to start saving now. My family isnt rich or anything, so they cant just whip money out of their pockets for college. I want some ideas of how to get money, and strategies for saving money. Thanks.

I know exactly where you are coming from. I have no help from my family paying for school, I am doing it all on my own. What i did to save up a lot is took a certainpercentage from each paycheck [once you have a job] and put it in a separate savings account. Don’t be tempted to spend it because in the long run it will be totally worth it. Also, when you get into high school and start looking into colleges, look to see the statistics on how much financial aid the students usually get. I hope I helped and good luck!

I don’t know where you are getting your numbers, but at the beginning of President Bush’s term the national debt was $5 trillion; $10 trillion at the end. The Obama budget calls for a national debt of around $25 trillion or $15 trillion more. So your kids are going to have to save an awful lot more, because if Obama confiscates the wealth of the rich and all other families with a combined annual income over $250,000 there is not enough to pay off the debt. Sorry about that, I knew that the debt only went up $5 trillion under President Bush.

Well once you turn 14 you can try babysitting. If you are serious about college take 50% of the money and put it in a savings account. I suggest putting it in a savings account with a credit union, they have higher interest rates than most banks. You will need your parents help to open that account. Once you save $1000 put it into a CD, it will gain a lot of interest and you will not be able to spend it for a certain period of time. Good luck and its great that you are starting early!

being that you r 13, try doing odd jobs here and there, like walking people dogs, washing cars, etc. if you save 50 dollars a month for the next five years you will have 3,000 dollars not including your regular job. That is 3 years for college books right there. you could save 5,000-8,000 by the time you go to school Make sure you get good grades in High school. Start applying for college in the( 11 th grade, Spring semester). You will get a scholarship.
