I am in my early 20’s and I want to futher my studies but the thing is I am a temporary employee and I pay my own rent and stuff, basically I am dependant on myself.I really wish to study Graphic and Advertising Design but it is costly and it is not so easy here to get a bursary 🙁 I thought of opening a small business but for that I’ll need Capital and I do not want a loan.

If you want to go to graphic and advertising design school, then you can do it! But you need to take the correct steps towards getting there. The first thing you should do is to find a school you like. Here’s a great list of all the top US graphic design schools:

http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/college/majors/brief/major_50-0409_brief.php

Once you find a school you like then you need to apply to it. Here are some great sites that offer helpful tips on applying for college:

If you need financial aid to help you pay for these schools then you have two choices: student loans or grants & scholarships. The best type of student loan to get is a federal student loan. Here’s what you need to do to get one:

1) Fill out the FAFSA. This will determine if you are eligible for financial aid. Go here:

http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

2) Once you are eligible for aid, choose a government-based student loan. The best loan to get is a Federal Perkins Loan. These have low interest rates and the government will help you pay it back as long as you stay enrolled in school. You also don’t need a cosigner or good credit for it. For more info go here:

3) The next best loan to get is a Subsidized Stafford Loan. This has many of the same benefits as a Perkins Loan. Learn more here:

You can also apply for grants and scholarships, which are free sources of money that you don’t have to pay back. You can read about them here:

Here are sites that offer graphic design scholarships:

There are now several Banking institutions that offer a savings account based on your daily or weekly use of your bank card(if you already have one) Your original total for that transaction is rounded up to a whole amount. The change that made that happened, is then deposited into a savings account for you. If you are a daily or a weekly spender, that change will quickly add up. If this is not the case, try putting extra change into some sort of jar or container on a constant basis. Do not touch it. This too will add up. Last but not least try applying for grants and or scholarships. These you do not have to pay back.. Check with your local school, library or the web..

Good Luck..
