Financial Aid/Excessive Hours Question?
Anyone know about how excessive credit hours affect financial aid?
I understand that for my university you can not exceed 180 hours for a degree, if you go over you lose your financial aid.
However I always assumed that as a double major, I could go over 180 hours without it affecting my aid (which I totally depend on).
Anyone know if double major credits usually apply to the 180 credit hour cut off? Is this a university wide thing or does it differ from university to university?

I think that rule is pretty standard. You need to double check the number of hours you’ll need to get the double major. 180 hours is really a lot of hours. Good planning and you should come under the limit. If not, you could prob ask for an appeal, I know at some schools (especially Jr colleges with a much lower max – 95 hours) can waive this rule, esp if they can prove they’ll graduate in a semester or two. It’s done a lot for nursing students who have tons of prerequisites.

I think a lot of places cut you off at 180 because they feel you should have a degree. I know, for my 2 BAs, I need 150 credits. But yes, they do stop federal funding after so many credits. You’d have to resort to private loans after that.
