It effects how you will complete your FAFSA but does not necessarily mean that you will not qualify for aid.

If your parent is disabled they are probably receiving some type of untaxable assistance (SSI, Worker’s Comp, etc.). This is still considered income and must be reported on the FAFSA. It is reported under Worksheet A or B, depending on the type of income. Because this is not taxable income, it would not have been listed on your parents taxes if your other parent filed, so you would need to collect year-end statements and/or check stubs to determine the amount of benefit received for the calendar year in question.

People tend to receive much less than they made in earnings in either SSI or Worker’s Comp, so chances are the income will not be high enough to make you ineligible for aid, but it is hard to say for sure without knowing your other parents income, your family size, number in college, assets, etc.

If you are under 21 your EFC Estimated family contribution is based on your parents income and if one parent is dissabled, their income will be below the standard and you will be eligable for additional money. Also your parents will have to sign for the student loans and be responsable if you dont pay. What is you EFC? You need your parents income tax returns to fill out the FAFSA.www.fafsa.gov

Yes…but not in a negative way…it will probably mean that you are going to get more money since one of your parents is unable to work
