What’s up!!

I graduated from community college and there are some things that I can share…I hope this helps…

-Make sure you keep you GPA up….this is vitally important…unfortunately there is a stigma that accompanies the Junior college experience, so you kinda have to prove those who review your application to a 4 year college wrong with your good grades

-Stay in the face of the registrar, and make sure that the credits and classes you are taking are transferrable if you have decided to go on and get a BA or BS degree.

-Go wherever you want to go girl…THE SKY IS THE LIMIT! Now, don’t get me wrong, the more prestigious the school, the harder you will need to work to get in….but it can be done

-Make a list of the cities that you would like to live in….visit…see if you can get one of your friends on board who also wants to go on to another school from the Junior college. Where you live (i.e. the city and state where the college is located) is just as important as the school

-Have you looked into financial aid, scholarships, etc. to pay for this next level of education? Although some may find this suggestion laughable, try Matthew Lesko (the guy with the question mark jacket)…he has books on how you can get money to go to school for free…keeping in mind that free money has a great element of WORK involved…but it may be worth it

-Get letters of recommendation from teachers (if you have any mentors who are teachers, definitely get a letter from them)

-This may be another corny idea: have an open house to celebrate your achievement (graduation from Junior College)…this may sound tacky, but gifts are always a welcome addition in your plight to continue your education elsewhere…and you may need all the help you can get

Congrats on your ventures in Junior college…and your upcoming ventures in the next institution YOU DECIDE to go to….THE BEST IS YET TO COME!

I am assuming that you want to go on and get your BA or BS…please forgive me if you do not….I did not go on, and am currently a technical trainer….the college education is a good thing, but make sure that you work jobs that will grow you a good work ethic and what I like to call, “job common sense and wisdom” 2 things that you will not get through a college education. My best friend graduated from community college and she has landed positions that require a BA or BS.

I know, I know…alot of info…but once again, I hope this helps….
