Abstract

All the disciplines in learning are interrelated. There is need to help learner understand the relationships between disciplines and use knowledge in one discipline to tackle another discipline. Advocates of an integrated curriculum call for integration in disciplines to help learners learn naturally and understand. The process of teacher learning is difficult and it requires practical knowledge. Collaboration between faculty teaching staff and teacher candidates prepares them for an environment of teaching. Teacher collaboration helps in their professional development. This essay shall seek to show the importance of collaboration in enhancing students’ development, learning and well being. It shall also highlight incidences of collaboration.

It has been realized that professional credentials and other academic qualifications do not correlate with the quality of learning. Teachers are seeking more than just understanding of concept to enable young children gain an understanding of complex concepts naturally.

Collaboration is needed to ensure that problems in the learning are identified. Teachers then discuss these problems and come up with ways of solving them. When this is done, learners are able to understand and develop and apply knowledge learnt. This essay shall focus on the importance of collaboration in the teaching process. It will also analyze issues in collaboration.

Importance of Collaboration

Collaboration as normally been referred to as ambitious teaching. This is because it seeks to see learners developing understanding of concepts. In addition, it seeks to address problems that arise in the teaching process. (Ilana, 2006). Collaboration requires teamwork, good leadership, effective use of time and motivation. The benefits of collaboration are not to teachers alone. They spill over to the learners, the other teachers, the school and the society.

The importance of collaboration come from the results derived out of it. Teachers acquire and develop skills in communication, new teaching skills such as team teaching, sharper observation skills, efficient classroom management, effective questioning skills, group techniques, improved technological know-how and good teacher student relationships. Teachers gain greater focus on their work. In addition, teachers are able to develop higher levels of self esteem and confidence.

The teachers are able to evaluate themselves through setting their own goals and objectives. Learners benefit a lot from their teachers and want to learn more. From the video, collaboration is evident. The two teachers involved in the process have different backgrounds but their goal is to achieve standards. Collaboration has helped them to give a wide view of their topic. They have been able to identify the best way of ensuring learners understand while meeting standards.

Collaboration with the classroom teacher was set to design a multi discipline lesson plan. The lesson plan would include social sciences and economics disciplines. The collaboration sought

to come up with ways of understandings the recession and its impact. The collaboration led to the use of resources that would help understand the current economic trend. I made adjustments to incorporate previous learning on the meaning and signs of an economic downturn.

Conclusion

There is need to ensure that social sciences is incorporated in the curriculum so as that learners can develop a wider basic understanding of the environment and other fields of study. Social sciences and economics interdisciplinary approach used will enable learners gain an understanding of economic concepts. Social sciences will enable learners to apply this understanding to their lives, families and community.
