“You can´t hug your children with nuclear arms” – meaning?

The above quote is a line that I know is the name of a song by a Malaysian band. Or is it something else as well?

Does anybody have the lyrics for this song OR is that a common phrase in English I just haven´t heard of yet….?

Thank you beforehand for helping out here.

I have heard it in the 70s, and its associated kin “Arms are for hugging”.

I think it came from the group “Another Mother for peace”, but I am not certain (They made famous the phrase ‘War is not healthy for children and other living things’)

It was a popular bumper sticker in the 80’s in the U.S. During the cold war, the proliferation of nuclear weapons made a lot of people nervous. The bumper sticker was just a semi-clever way of saying “Make peace, not war.”

The point was we should use our two arms to hug our children and celebrate life, family and peace. We should not be building weapons (arms) of mass destruction that could later threaten the lives of our children.

Haha, thats a pun. Nuclear arms being nuclear weapons. This basically means that nuclear weapons are not helping anyone, but hurting the human race as a whole.

What lyrics? Whatever this band is saying is unintelligible. Nuclear arms means nuclear weapons. If those were used, no one would be doing any hugging.

Yes, it’s just a political catch-phrase. Wittier than most, I admit. It reminds me of one that was widely used during the Viet Nam era. “Fighting for peace is like (copulating) for virginity.
