Why is the word ****.r so offensive?

Didn’t it originate from the term Nigeria and the country Niger? I don’t mean to sound crass, but what’s so bad about one reffering to anothers heritage? It just seems to me that, by definition, the word is not bad. From a linguistic point of view, it seems no different than calling someone from Germany a European.

When you argue, or make, your point- keep in mind that I am talking about the word itself. Not the feelings it creates. Feelings are too variable to debate.

The word is currently used as a disparaging term for a member of any socially, economically, or politically deprived group of people: “Gun owners are the new ******* . . . of society” (John Aquilino).

ETYMOLOGY:

Alteration of dialectal neger, black person, from French nègre, from Spanish *****

During slavery slaves were sold to the americans by portuguese slave traders. The americans were buying ,”Ne-gros”, which is spanish for black, the slaves owners coined the term, “******”

It did not start out as a derogatory term, it became that after slavery to the civil rights movment and today. Blacks today say it means, “A low life person” with that anyone can be a ******, this comes from a lack of research. Many blacks call themselves ******, why ? I don’t know, but it just means, “BLACK”.

It came from the fact that many of them were originally from the country of Niger in Africa

*igger is a deragatory term that comes from the word “Negroe”, meaning black. It’s like calling a a white person “white bread” or something. Identifying someone by nationality is different. Like “American.” It isn’t identifying by heritage, but by skin color. Not race, but physical appearance.
