Why does everyone confuse the words ‘Loose’ and ‘Lose’?

Does anyone else cringe when somebody says something like:

I’m trying to loose weight, how can I do it?

Why are you the 900th person to ask this question?

Some people here are from other countries, so their first language is not English. Loose and lose are easy words to mix up if English is not your native tongue.

Education is going down the tubes. Parenting skills are too.

Today’s teens are going to be tomorrows troubles 🙁

In their mind, both “sound” the same, thus the confusion

It’s easy to confuse the two, because they are so similar in spelling, but they mean different things. Lose means defeat. Loose means not tight.
