Why do we write the digit after the word of the number.. for example “add one (1)”?
Take one (1) tablet twice daily. Why do we put the digit in parentheses? why not just put the digit? when i was young I thought it was because some people couldn’t read numbers spelled out.. ?

lol, maybe it is because some people can’t read but it’s probably to avoid confusion, someone may look at a bottle of pills that reads “take fifteen”, read it wrong, and take 50, who knows??

This is done to make the numeral perfectly clear. To avoid confusion – thirteen and thirty may be mistaken for each other if someone is reading quickly. So , it would be less confusing to write thirteen (13) or thirty (30).
Some people do this and some people don’t.
When writing an essay or any other type of paper, always write the numeral out in words.
for example: twenty one instead of 21.
or you may write: twenty one (21).

it really is just a point of clarification in legal matters.
ie: your cheque in the amount of seven hundred, ninety-eight dollars and thirty-nine cents, [$798.39], was received in our offices august 7, 2007..

it’s really a boring legal description thing. it’s used in legal documents…don’t ask me why. my guess is that numbers are pretty much the same in every language. so no matter what language you speak…you’ll know the numbers are right! lol

I imagine it’s for people that speak another language…though it’d still be tough…never really thought about it.

I don’t think I’ve seen that before. Where does it show up, on instructions or something?
