We use slang because it’s a part of our culture, as black people. This started as early as slavery times, when the masters of our fore-fathers ridiculed us and toutured us, we had to have our-own way of communicating with each other in a way that would confuse the overseers or the mistress or the master or slave-owners if they were to accidentally hear some things being said. This was also used for tactics of escaping and getting out of all sorts of trouble. And today we still use slang, but it is used by everyone, like rappers, actors, but it is just a talented form of art for us black people, we are trend-setters when it comes to slang, or smooth-talking, so we as black people should be given thanks for creating a way of talking that is so diverse and colorful or as the white folks say COOL!!!! Don’t you think?

In many cases, the slang is easier to say than the technical or correct phrases. It is also common to speak in slang in order to identify with a certain sub-culture.

Language is alive, an ever evolving thing. Today’s slang words are tomorrow’s regular words.

Just try reading English from many centuries back. You might as well be reading Latin. And several centuries from now, our English will be unrecognizable to contemporary people.

It’s just a form of communicating, different slang for different groups.

Because they are words everybody understands.

For example, cannabis and weed are the same thing, but there are probably quite a few people who don’t know that.

Plus, sometimes they make sentences sound better.

But the most probable reason of all is culture–actions/habits passed on by other people rather than instinct. People around you do certain things and it is nature to do them as well–like using forks instead of eating with your hands, for example.

No living language is simply one set of words which can be used the same way in all situations. The nature of language is such that there are in infinite variety of different ways to arrange its elements. What this means is that there are many ways to say the same thing, depending on where you are, who you are talking to, and how you feel. One of the main factors which determine which words and structures are appropriate is the degree of formality of the situation in which you are using the language. The more formal the situation the more formal the conversation.

because, the years have grown, and some of us get tired and use words like gonna. But it’s okay, but when writting, do not use slang cause it is not right.

Because we can say things quicker and people can relate better to slang sometimes
