Why do they always add “101” to the end of class names?
For example: Cooking 101 or English 101

101 means it is the first level or introductory level course in any category. You usually need to take a 101 class in any subject before moving on to more specific areas (narrower areas) or more difficult levels of study in that subject. 101 is shorthand for saying a course offering is the base/general knowledge for a subject.

These are the first level classes. Then you would go onto English 202 or so one.
