Why do people call Aloha,Oregon “uh-low-uh” instead of “uh-low-ha?

It’s been bugging me for years and I don’t know how to find out.

I guess there are several reasons it could be, but. . .

if the first A is the first ‘uh’

the LOH could be the ‘low’

then the second A would be the ‘uh’

maybe.

Also, in many languages the ‘h’ isn’t really pronounced, like in Spanish ‘Hola’ for hello is pronounced ‘oh-LA’. And since the word is Hawaiian, it’s not really an English word.

just a thought.

Because a lot of people don’t like or aren’t used to enunciating words. “Uh-low-uh” is just a lazy pronunciation of “Aloha.” *shrugs* That’s just how some people say things. If it bugs you so much, cover your ears.

Almost everyone does it. When saying a sentence like: “A helicopter just flew over us,” a lot of people don’t say “A” with a hard “A” sound; most pronounce it as “uh.”

This is like people who live in Prescott, Arizona call their town “Presskit” (“rhymes with biscuit”). It kind of separates the locals from the “tourists”. Just a guess…
