I’m astonished that more than half the questions asked on YA have such elementary spelling mistakes. Many have no punctuation and often the grammar is incorrect.

People keep telling me I’m just too picky. I even got a violation for asking why someone’s spelling was so bad!

I’m not brilliant at English, but I try.

There’s a big difference between an error and a mistake. Errors occur when people are unaware of the correct form. Mistakes involve mistyping or misspeaking.

Truthfully, “there” “their” and “they’re” mistakes are not that big of a deal. As long as the reader understands the intention, the message is effectively communicated.

It’s possible that I’ve made mistakes in this answer. I didn’t proofread. I’ve made no grammatical errors though.

I believe that most of this is due to the increased use of AIM and texting on phones. I hope they don’t write that way on their homework.
