Which of these college majors should I choose?

Hi, I want to go to school to be an environmental/wildlife journalist (like those who write for National Geographic). Which one of these 30 majors should I choose from? These are my choices:

Accounting

Anthropology

Art

Athletic Training Education Program

Aviation Science

Biology

Business: see Management, Accounting, and Finance

Chemistry

Chemistry/Geology

Communication Arts and Sciences

Computer Science

Criminal Justice

Dance Education

Early Childhood Education

Earth Sciences

Economics

Elementary Education

English

Finance

Foreign Languages

Geography

Health Education

History

Management

Mathematics

Music

Philosophy

Physical Education

Physics

Political Science

Psychology

(Secondary Education)

Social Work

Sociology

Spanish

Special Education

Theater

Obviously I know which ones would make a little more sense than others, but I listed all of them just to make sure.

From that list I would go with communication arts and sciences and the earth science. It is really to bad they do not have an environmental program. Do you have to go to this school? You might want to seek out a school with an environmental science and journalism program.

Sadly, to be an evironmental/wildlife journalist, your list leaves off the three best majors, journalism, zoology (biology is good, but Zoology is best) and Ecology/Geology. I would say search out the schools that have these majors, especially a combonation.

A geologist with journalism skills could do very well in teh national geographic. Also, if you want to be taken seiously, you will need at least a Masters, but probably a PhD.

Although your interests spans a lot of ground. You would be wise to major in a field that will more directly relate to your future career goals. If you want a career in journalism, communication arts and sciences or mass communications would make the most sense and then a minor in geography could not hurt either if you plan to do work that is similar to those of national geographic.

Depending on some colleges, computer science and computer engineering are under one major, which is computer science. Computer programming would also fall under those as well so my answer, they are all the same. However, as a career you might focus specifically on computer programming or other areas and some schools offer electives in those areas so explore.

You could major in something like Communications or English and minor in something like biology, ecology, environmental science, or wildlife biology. You could also consider a double major.

If journalism isn’t offered, you should major in English or Anthropology or Sociology and minor in Psychology, or Foreign Languages
