The first time you refer to a book title, always write out the title in full, and in brackets next to it, write the abbreviation. From that point on, you can use the abbreviation.
For example, if I wanted to abbreviate the title of a book called, “Apples and Oranges,” I would write something like:
…”Apples and Oranges,” (AO)…
So from now on, (for the rest of the report), I can just use the abbreviation, “AO,” to represent the title.
The same thing applies to abbreviating anything in any document – for whatever you want to abbreviate, initially write it out in full before you use abbreviations.
