I need to wright a paper for my English class and wanted to do it on the conflict between human logic and human emotions. But emotions isnt the right word, i cant think of a word that encompasses human emotion, spirtuallity, and all that kind of stuff. Any Suggestions?

One option is passion, but you would have to add something like ‘I use the word passion in the classical sense, as in the Greek ‘thumos’.’ In this sense passion is not simply feelings of lust or love, but any interior experience a human being has in response to an exterior experience.

Another possibility is the word ‘spirit’ which is sometimes used (in classical writing by which I mean up to and including the modern period) to mean ‘that aspect of man which ennobles him’. This is not the same as ‘soul’. It is a positive term, though, in this sense – it does not include things like terror.

good luck with what you write!

There’s a set of three words:

Pathos- emotions, feelings, etc.

Logos- logic, reasoning, etc.

Ethos- values, beliefs, etc.

Also, an all-encompassing noun for the concept would be the soul.

Feeling, conscience, self… ?

“Heart versus head” is a very simple and straightforward description.
