I am currently working as an apprentice for a chef with the intent of gaining experience here and then applying to an institute. Since I am new to the culinary field, I really am sort of confused on what type of credentials matter in the culinary field. I am sure that attending a four year program would be great, but I actually just graduated from a four year college, so I am trying to weigh my options here. I’ve seen certifications, associate degrees, and bachelor. What really is meant when someone says they went to culinary school? Thanks

My nephew is a chef at the Wynn in Las Vegas. He went to culinary school and I think when you are just getting started, your schooling is what they look for, so if I were you I would get myself into a good culinary school. Unless you are apprentice to some world famous chef, apprenticeships are not looked upon with favor. Just get yourself into culinary school, if that is what you want to do. Why don’t you move to Las Vegas, and teach grammar school during the day time and go to one of the great culinary schools at night.

*In Las Vegas, they are always looking for teachers. Also, as you know, There are more chef’s in this area than any other place, including Paris.
