What is your opinion… ?

… regarding the word ‘ain’t’?

Personally, I totally support it. I mean… We have a contraction for:

are not = aren’t

were not = weren’t

is not = isn’t

was not = wasn’t

am not = ?????

What’s so bad about ain’t?

Hah, It seems like “am not”, and “is not” are the ‘corrections’ brought forth when someone uses “ain’t”. It’s like people panic because there’s not a clear cut way to separate the contraction!

I think it’s fine! There used to be alot of talk that it was incorrect, but by this time I’m pretty sure it’s become it’s own WORD within itself, moreso than a contraction of two other words. ๐Ÿ™‚

“Ain’t” was an acceptable word in Old English, around the time of Chaucer. Why it became unacceptable while all the other contractions remained is beyond me. It’s logical that it should exist in polite speech, but who ever said that language is logical?

I don’t have a problem with it, but it’s just considered improper English. It’s not really a word, because a contraction for “am not” would be something like amn’t which is not easy to pronounce.

I think time will make this word acceptable. It is a perfectly fine word to me, but try telling people that who are from the old school.

It is a word just not a proper word. I personally think its ok to say it but alot of people thinks it makes you sound stupid. Just don’t say it at a job interview

It doesn’t bother me at all. Language is very dynamic and new words are coming into use all the time.

Plus, some people sound really, really cute when they use it! ๐Ÿ™‚
