What is the meaning behind teh expression Hail Cobra?

Does it have to do with the band Cobra Starship?

Hail Cobra comes from the ’80s cartoon “G.I. Joe”. The bad guys in the cartoon were an organization known simply as Cobra and the grunts would frequently chant “Hail Cobra! Hail Cobra!” in a show of solidarity for the evil leader Cobra Commander. It was actually derived from the “Seig Heil” cries of the Nazis, but it’s not exactly the same thing, and was by no means supposed to be offensive to anyone.

It may have developed additional meanings beyond the cartoon, but that’s where it originally came from.

I’ve never heard that term before, and what does a cobra have to do with the third reich anyway?

I think the first poster was making this up (but if she could provide a RELIABLE source that would be nice).

If you want to make an instant enemy go up to someone and say “seig heil!” this is not funny…. they would seriously beat the **** out of you! Oh, what was the question again?
