Make yourself flash cards on index cards just as you might if you were learning vocabulary in a foreign language. Put the word on the front and the definition on the back. That way, you can quickly test yourself and check your answers.

As your work through the flash cards, put aside the ones you have mastered and continue to practice with the ones you don’t know. Soon, you’ll have just a small stack of cards and just a few words to learn.

Duplicate (and enlarge) words/definitions on a copy machine. Cut up the definitions and words. Place on note cards if you’d like.

First work on matching definitions and words. Move them around until you have matched all of the words. If your teacher is giving a matching test, this is all you have to do.

Second, have all of the words and definitions face up in two columns. Pick a word and look through all of the definitions to find the right answer. Do this for each word and definition. You can look at the other words or definitions to rule out other choices but you can’t lay them side by side. They must remain in two columns. This is a bit harder than the matching game because it isn’t as easy to rule out other matches.

Third, leave all the definitions out and put the words face down. Turn up one card at a time and match it to its corresponding definition. Then turn it back over and turn the next one up. Then reverse the process and turn over definitions one at a time.

Fourth, turn everything upside down in a pile. Turn over one card at a time and say the corresponding word or definition.

I agree with Lucy L here. As an educator I am often trying to create methods that can help my students remember AND understand the meaning of various vocabulary words. Flas cards are an excellent method. Another is silly rhymes or using the words in a sentence to ensure that you understand the meaning.

i chanced on that I did extremely nicely as quickly as I wrote out the words, appeared up the definitions and wrote each and every thing down on paper. Then flow those to 3×5 enjoying cards/flash enjoying cards. The repetition of writing them down two times, and then memorization artwork with the flash enjoying cards is what worked perfect for me. I made sturdy grades, it works. And do the flash enjoying cards with somebody – have them quiz you.

I used flash cards. Also, I write them on a piece of paper with the def. and rewriting seems to help, the more you use them the more they are retained.
