What is relationship between ‘occur ‘ and ‘happen’?

Or does it have any difference?

Basically, they are synonyms (although I tend to think of things occurring at a particular point in time, while happening can be something ongoing. That may be my own usage bias, though).

The two terms are interchangeable in some respect but what makes the one distinct from the other is predictivity (if there is such a word) .

Occurence is a happening that is not predictable. It happens but you do not have a time table. This can be applied to natural events such as tornados, lightning and rainbows.

Happen is a term more general in its application- bad things happen to good people- “it happens” applies to miniscule even inconsequential things.

Occur is a synonym for happen and vice versa.
