It’s a measure of how easy or hard it is for a certain level, say, high school level, to comprehend a given text.

There are several different readability measures. In general, the measures take into consideration the number of syllables per word and the number of words per sentence to compute a numeric score. The readability score is then compared to a readability scale that suggests the years of education (from 1st grade through post-graduate college level) required to understand the written material.
