What is a good analogy/metaphor for…?

something that rises.

I want to complete this last part of my essay where I am talking about depression and anomie where people shouldn’t really say we “fall” into depression or anomie, but rather we rise into these states of being, we rise above society because we refuse to think like conformists..blah blah blah…

so we rise like [insert your analogy/metaphor here please πŸ™‚ ]

rise up like the phoenix, from the ashes of despair and uncertain beliefs. for if you would be a real seeker of truth, it is necessary that at least once in your life you doubt, as far as possible, all things given to you … as being the true reality for all persons.

We refuse to swim in a river of sludge, it will take more than a few cleansing rains to clean out the mess, but we will rise above it and gain safe ground.

We don’t so much fall into depression as sink into it and then struggle to climb out. To float upwards into depression seems an unlikely analogy.

Nonconformity is a different matter. Here, free of societal constraints, we are at liberty to express our true selves.

my first thought was rise like a balloon but that seems to be too pleasant of an image for such a topic

all I can think of is, rise like clouds over the ground – completely separated, cold and uncaring, not bothered but also not bothering
