What does this sentence mean?
I was working for a real estate agency and then I applied for a recruitment consultancy position and the person over the phone asked me “How did you brought on new business” and I thought she meant how did I get the job and she said no I mean “How did you generate a new business” The sentence does make sense but not in this context. You dont generate new business as a real estate agent. what was she trying to say?

As a Realtor, of course you generate new business. You certainly don’t rely on the same 100 people to continue to buy and sell homes, do you? No, you have to constantly be on the look out for people in certain areas that may be thinking of selling, or buying, and keep your name in front of them.
There are also new home builders starting up every day, you also need to work with them.
Example:
Did you hand out business cards to new people you met? Did you advertise with a local agency?
