For example in Britain right now, Charles (Elizabth’s oldest son) is the first heir to the throne, William (his older son) is next in line, Harry (his second son) is next. If William has a son then Harry gets bumped, or if (perish the thought) William AND Harry had died with Diana, then Charles’s brother is back in line. Hence the dastardly doings in British history.
