The actual definition is:

a) Exceeding what is necessary or normal

b) characterized by or containing an excess; specifically : using more words than necessary

c) characterized by similarity or repetition

d) chiefly British : no longer needed for a job and hence laid off

Most people today, however, use it in an insulting term when they are describing something that they feel should be understood that the “repetitive” descriptive term. For instance, some guys would say “Stupid blonde” is redundant, because they believe that blondes are, by definition, stupid. “Fat pig,” “Sloppy drunk,” and “Brainy geek” are also considered redundancies.

when something is redundant, it generally means that it has already been said. like if you were explaining to someone something, and you said the same thing twice, only worded differently, that would be redundant.

Redundant is the use of words in a sentence with the same meaning.

My t-shirt has the words ” officiating official” written on the back.
