Probably means that it was extremely high tech at the time it was made. (But it’s now outdated.)

A little context would be good, but I would guess that it means whatever “it” signifies was at the cutting edge of communications technology at the time it was popular or used regularly.

I think they are alluding to a derrogatory racist statement. You know that whole ‘sweeter the blackberry…’ thing. I would like to think that in this day we have been able to escape this type of racially provocative language. To me saying that is like a Klansman saying ‘it was the slipnoose of our time.’ Disgusting.
