What does it mean to say someone is beached? like a beached oaf perhaps?
I was walking in the grocery store and some kid called my friend a beached oaf!

To be “beached” would mean to be out of your element. A whale that’s ended up in shallow waters or a boat that’s been driven onto land by a storm is “beached”. The implication is that you’re out of your element and look really awful as a result, or flopping about uselessly.
