Like, if you live in Elba, NY, -VS- Washington DC. They pay $7.50 if you live in Elba, and 15% more in DC to compensate the cost of living. They pay you more there because everything costs more; milk, gas, food, rent, etc. That way people can afford to live.

On the offchance that you meant ‘geometric increase’ that would mean 15% added (giving 8.63), and then 15% added to the new total (giving 9.92), and so on (as opposed to an arithmetical increase, which would be 15% added to the base pay, which remains at $7.50 all the time)
