For the above answers — Not all of the time.

On Industrial Construction sites (like power plant builds or boiler refits) there are usually several different contractors. The workers wear the color & logo of the company they’re working for. If it’s one contractor using several different Craft Unions; they’ll have a different color for each Craft.

I’ve thrown out several of each color (they get new ones each project). Most of the time the only way you can tell which workers are supervision is they’re not filthy, sweaty, or exhausted. They’re also the ones with the radios; but not the only ones (crane signalers have radios too).

As a synesthesic, colors for me do have a very personal and personified representation. Red doesn’t necessarily represent anger, but an intense and pressured person. Similar to the idea of a person holding their breathe, they can only do it for so long. A dark blue would mean obnoxious, sarcastic, rude. White would be a pushover, a very insecure individual. ect. As for the general idea of colors, each does imply a mood or vibe. Green may imply clam, neutral. Black may imply cynical and deep. Fuchsia could imply hyper and energetic. Purple could be similar to green, but it depends on the shade of course. Blue, depending on the shade, could generally mean distant or cold, if you will.

On construction sites different hard hat colors often signify different roles. For instance: white for supervisors, blue for technical advisor’s, red for safety inspectors and yellow for workmen.

The colors used to be significant such as in the first post but many countries have dropped the requirement to wear a designated color. Some companies/general contractors may require adherence to the former standard but for the most part it is now a free for all.

I think yellow is the general color for all types of work. I wonder if they have specific colors for the welders? My husband has a yellow hat, so I’m not sure.
