What does being a “good samitarian” mean?
Favorite Answer
theres nothing wrong with helping someone out, with hopes that someday someone will be there to help you out. but the point is to do it completely selflessly (not-selfishly), as that’s true, genuine compassion.
the “samaritan” comes from a parable in the Bible, which was used to illustrate that compassion should be for all people. it’s like talking about being a “good neighbor”. Samaritans were neighbors to Jews, Jews hated Samaritans. But in the story, the Samaritan was the only one to help a suffering Jew, while everybody else walked right by, pretending not to notice.
When we are a ‘good samaritan’ it means that we help those who need our help and if need be – offer an extension of our help in whatever way is necessary.
We got nothing in return but a good feeling that this young guy would not be hitchhiking home, or sleeping in his car.
Good Samaritans … I hope.
