Medical deafness as pathology would be any loss above 70 decibels and frequency loss between 3000Hz and 6000Hz (range of human speech).

Cultural deafness in many instances has nothing to do with pathology. It is what we in the community call the difference between big d and little d deafness.

The main component of the difference is the use of American Sign Language (ASL). From my experience there is no such thing as deaf culture without it. Most deaf persons in this country that identify themselves as deaf culture utilize ASL.
