Intelligence or even “soul” are often considered “emergent properties” arising as they do from the combination of chemicals that make up a brain.
Life itself is considered an emergent property of the collection of amino acids, proteins, and other chemicals that any creature or plant is composed of.
On a less metaphysical level, the chemicals sulphur, saltpetre, and carbon are relatively inert. You could do pretty much anything to them individually and they’ll just sit there. Sift them together and you have gunpowder.
One could say that the explosiveness is an emergent quality or property.
