Vocab trouble?

We have a vocab quiz every week. The teacher gives us 20 words on Monday. By Friday, she gives us the quiz.

There’s a word box of the 20 words, and the quiz is 20 sentences with a blank in each sentence where the word needs to go. I need to put the correct word in the blank where the sentence makes sense.

I’m not very good at these kinds of quizzes, I’m better at just writing down the deffinition. What’s the best way for me to study?

im really good at those, ive always gotten 20/20 but once i got 19/20 lol……..what i do is 1)study/memorize the words which im good at so its not hard…if u cant remember the definitions, then my further suggestions wont help 2)when u read one of the sentences with a blank u need to think about what type of word goes there…..what part of speech(adjective, etc)and then think of the definition that would go there.

ex: Lauren went to the mall to get a _____purse, with enough room for dog in it.

choices: small, large, tiny, long

you would first have to know it is an adjective, and then you have to know what would work. those are easy choices cuz u know the definitions already, but its just an example. u know that the word has to be “large” because it needs enough room for the dog. so that is how u do it…u look at what the sentence is trying to say. and i promise u that there is going to be a context clue in all of the sentences on the quiz. let me know if u need more help

p.s. if you need to quickly write down the definitions, then do it. just remember that it takes out ur time…..but if u have alot of time, do it so that u get a better grade.

Now, Lauren…(the person answering above)…I must ask you about your answer. If there were 20 words, which fit into 20 sentences, how, (as you’ve stated) could you get a score of 19?

Using each word once, you’d either get 20 or 18. As for the purse question, the lady might need to get a “long” purse, not a large one, as she might be shopping for a miniature dachsund dog, and a long one would work fine.

And for the person asking for help on the vocabulary quizes, just do your best, and have someone give you little pop quizes at home to help give you an idea what the words mean. You can do it !

There is only one way to build a good vocabulary. Read and read and read, and look up words you dont understand.
