“they do whatever means necessary to ensure their own success”?

or “they do whatever means necessary to ensure their own successes”?

Is success plural in this case or not?

Keep it singular, for you can only have one success per person (in this quote)

In the first case the sentence is slightly wrong, it should read

“they [will] do whatever is necessary to ensure their own sucess”.

“Sucess” is singular, as the possessive “own” is a singular prefix.

success is singular

They will do whatever is necessary to ensure their success.

They will succeed by whatever means are necessary.

They intend to succeed by any means necessary.
