the difference between integrity and honesty is simple.

Honesty means that whatever you’ve done, good or bad, you speak the truth about it. In other words, you don’t lie.

Integrity means that you adhere to a moral conviction, or code of honor, that won’t allow you to do certain things that you feel would debase you.

For example:

1. I come upon a website that details ways of cheating on my taxes. My INTEGRITY doesn’t allow me to employ any of the techniques listed because I know them to be wrong.

2. I take a shortcut at the job which causes someone else to get hurt. When someone asks me if I did it, I am HONEST and say yes.

Get the difference?

Integrity is more than honesty. Someone who has integrity chooses to do the right thing, whatever the cost.

Integrity is doing the right thing, even if nobody is watching.

Henry Ward Beecher: Integrity Quote

No man can tell whether he is rich or poor by turning to his ledger. It is the heart that makes a man rich. He is rich according to what he is, not according to what he has.

“Integrity is not a conditional word. It doesn’t blow in the wind or change with the weather. It is your inner image of yourself, and if you look in there and see a man who won’t cheat, then you know he never will.”

John D. MacDonald

Don’t try to be different. Just be good. To be good is different enough. ~Arthur Freed

Better keep yourself clean and bright; you are the window through which you must see the world. ~George Bernard Shaw

Honesty is just not lying. Your boss asks if you did something- you tell the truth. The difference between that and integrity is that you can be honest for the wrong reason. Like returning someone’s lost wallet because you think they’ll give you a reward. Integrity is the basing of one’s actions on an internally consistent framework of principles. Depth of principles and adherence of each level to the next are key determining factors. One is said to have integrity to the extent that everything he does and believes is based on the same core set of values. If you have integrity, you do the right thing for the right reason.

Integrity means doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.

An example would be if someone walked out of a store with a small piece of merchandise and forgot to pay for it, that person would go back and pay for it.

There’s little chance that that person would get caught, but he or she showed integrity in going back to pay for it.

in·teg·ri·ty /ɪnˈtɛgrɪti/ Pronunciation Key – Show Spelled Pronunciation[in-teg-ri-tee] Pronunciation Key – Show IPA Pronunciation

–noun 1. adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty.

2. the state of being whole, entire, or undiminished: to preserve the integrity of the empire.

3. a sound, unimpaired, or perfect condition: the integrity of a ship’s hull.

Integrity can mean many things, but most commonly refers to definition number 1. To have integrity means that you have good morals and ethics and are honest. Cheating, for instance, questions your integrity. If someone was to return $1,000.00 to the person that they saw drop it without realizing it, they are showing a great amount of integrity. They did what they knew was right despite the want to keep it. Hope this was helpful!

Integrity demands that you are STRAIGHT WITH YOURSELF. Sometimes it’s the toughest thing you’ll ever have to do… but it’s the foundation of a joyous life, self-expression, power… everything. You don’t say ‘yes’ to please people, or because it’s the right thing to say, or because it makes you “look good”. The foundation of self-confidence is living in accordance with your values. As long as you know you’re doing the right thing, the world can collapse around you and you’ll maintain peace of mind, calm and confidence. Integrity is vital to high self-confidence. It is an essential value to have, and it is more than a value as it ensures that all your other values are respected and lived in line with. You can’t have a little bit of integrity, you can’t put it aside when it’s not convenient. From the moment you’ve selected your values, you will never compromise them. This is the measure of your quality as a human being. As long as deep down you know you’ll never violate your values you can be in control and self-confident. Honesty involves not only telling the truth but living truthfully. When we fake an emotion or pretend to like something we dislike, we lower our self-respect . When we lie, we are giving ourselves the message that the truth is something to be ashamed of. If we pretend or live falsely in any way, we are rejecting our true selves and this creates a negative self-concept that we’ll find reflected in the attitudes of others toward us…..

Integrity is the basing of one’s actions on an internally consistent framework of principles. Depth of principles and adherence of each level to the next are key determining factors. One is said to have integrity to the extent that everything he does and believes is based on the same core set of values. While those values may change, it is their consistency with each other and with the person’s actions that determine his integrity. The concept of integrity is directly linked to responsibility in that implementation spawning from principles is designed with a specific outcome in mind. When the action fails to achieve the desired effect, a change of principles is indicated. Accountability is achieved when a faulty principle is identified and changed to produce a more useful action.

Honesty is the human quality of communicating and acting truthfully. It is related to truth as a value. This includes listening, and any action in the human repertoire — as well as speaking.

Superficially, honesty means simply, stating facts and views as best one truly believes them to be. It includes both honesty to others, and to oneself and about ones own motives and inner reality
