my question is simple.I just want to know if this sentence is grammatically correct : DOES YOUR NAME FITS YOU?
Favorite Answer
Does your name fit you?
You do not use “fits”, even though it is correct for the simple present tense and the third-person singular conjugation, because adding the auxiliary verb, “does”, changes the form of the verb. It is no longer “simple present”, but I forgot the name we use for this. The auxiliary verb “does” IS necessary, and cannot be dropped or substituted.
Note these correct forms of the affirmative statement:
Your name fits you.
Your name does fit you.
The use of does is also necessary for the negation of the affirmative statement:
Your name does not fit you.
Just in case pronunciation is another area of concern for you, does is a form of the word “do”, and is NOT the plural of the noun, “doe”. The pronunciations of these words are different.
“do”, pronounced “doo”, conjugation “does”, pronounced “duz”
“doe”, pronounced “doe”, plural “does”, pronounced “doze”
