So it’s an “end to a means” rather than a “means to and end?” Try the Dictionary….

There’s a terrific website at http://www.prefixsuffix.com/ with a table of prefixes and suffixes and their meanings.

According to http://www.prefixsuffix.com/ , -gress means to gather, to bring together, step, or go. You can find con, ible/able and many others there too.

This answer was brought to you by a librarian. We’re online and in your neighborhood. Find your public library at http://lists.webjunction.org/libweb/Public_main.html

Tracy is correct – a decent-sized dictionary, which every home should have, has all the endings and their origins.

You are looking for “suffixes”. Try Google.

(better of the two – seperates them into categories)
