Is this sentence gramatically correct?

People tend to write about two important things; their ideals, and the world around them.

No…you use a colon, not a semi colon. (you only use a semi-colon if the next clause can stand on its own as a sentence. “Their ideas, and the world around them” couldn’t be a sentence on its own. Also, you don’t need the comma after “ideals”.

The semicolon should be a colon. The comma is unnecessary, but not incorrect.

No instead of a semicolon use a coma. (A semicolon usually joins two independant clauses).

When its a sentence after the semi-colon but otherwise you have to use a colon. 🙂
