My personal favorite to use is “horizons”

I agree. On the political/ideological spectrum it goes from left to right: communist > socialist > democrat (liberal) > republican > libertarian > chaos The word “liberal” as used in politics is a huge misnomer, since ‘liberty’ or freedom is contradictory to the pro-regulation advocated by the left side of the spectrum. Instead of “liberal”, something like “Regulist” or “Regulationist” would be better applied to the left. But, on the other hand. I’m willing to go out on a limb and claim that most Americans don’t even know what the different political groups are supposed to stand for. Many religious zealots mistakenly self proclaim themselves as republicans, not knowing that their views on anti-abortion, anti-gay-marriage, and anti-outsourcing/offshoring are actually ANTI-republican too. Using better terms doesn’t make a difference if people don’t even use them properly. Note to asker and other answerers: Just because someone is on the left side of the spectrum does not imply that they are an activist, or vice versa. You can just as easily be an activist on the right side of the spectrum.
